FWISD Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month
Join the Fort Worth ISD in celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month, September 15 to October 15.
The District, along with the nation, is recognizing the rich history, culture and contributions of Hispanic Americans.
National Hispanic Heritage Month acknowledges Hispanic Americans, who are descendants of individuals from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, Central and South America. The observance originated in 1968 as a weeklong celebration and expanded into a monthlong commemoration in 1988, according to hispanicheritagemonth.gov.
Specifically, the Fort Worth ISD Division of Equity and Excellence is sharing a series of articles and resources celebrating Hispanic and Latinx history for District stakeholders throughout the month on social media. Engage with the content and join the discussion via www.facebook.com/FWISDEquity.
The week of October 4-8, FWISD students will interview local and prominent Latinx leaders in a special Facebook Live event. Equity and Excellence has invited FWISD’s Latinx Board of Education trustees to participate in the event. Look for additional details about the live broadcast soon on the Equity and Excellence Facebook page.
The FWISD Board of Education will celebrate Hispanic heritage with a recognition of the District’s Hispanic students, educators, board members and their families at its September 28 meeting at the Professional Development Center on McCart Avenue. The meeting begins at 5:30 p.m.
A banner commemorating National Hispanic Heritage Month will be on display in the FWISD Central Administration lobby on University Drive throughout the month.
FWISD encourages its campuses to share their planned events and activities celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month with the Communications Department to be featured on the District website and social media platforms.
