National Summer Reading Challenge Recognizes 2 FWISD Schools
Two Fort Worth ISD elementary schools are among the nation’s top finishers in a summer reading challenge sponsored by Thorndike Press, Beanstack and billionaire entrepreneur Mark Cuban.
Worth Heights Elementary School earned runner-up honors and Van Zandt-Guinn Elementary was recognized as an honorable mention in the 2021 Level Up challenge. Schools nationwide participated in the K-12 reading challenge June 1 to July 15.
The objective of the free challenge was keeping students engaged, reading and lessening summer slide impacts. Students could read books from any genre or format. They tracked their progress throughout the summer on the Beanstack app, a reading challenge tracker.
Participating schools could win up to $5,000 in cash prizes from Mr. Cuban for their campus and $1,000 in large-print books from Thorndike Press for the amount of time their students spent reading over the summer.
As a runner-up, Worth Heights Elementary is the recipient of $2,500 and $250 in large-print books.
