Over 100 Set to Square Off in FWISD Spelling Bee Jan. 27-29
More than 100 Fort Worth ISD elementary and middle school students are buzzing into the District’s annual Spelling Bee, January 27-29. Bee participants are hoping to land a chance at advancing to the 2020 Scripps Regional Spelling Bee this spring at Texas Christian University.
The District will host six area bee competitions over three days at the Fort Worth Botanic Garden Lecture Hall, 3220 Botanic Garden Blvd.
First-place winners and runners-up from each FWISD elementary and middle school have been invited to one of six area bees, which groups competing schools by geographic regions across FWISD. First-place winners will compete in the area bees and runners-up from campus bees are alternates.
The following area spelling bee contests are set:
Area 6- 8:30 a.m. Monday, January 27
Area 5- 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 27
Area 4- 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28
Area 3- 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28
Area 2- 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29
Area 1- 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29
The winner and runners-up of the six area contests will represent FWISD in the 2020 Scripps Regional Spelling Bee, March 24 at Texas Christian University in hopes of advancing to the Scripps National Spelling Bee May 24-29 in National Harbor, Maryland.
This year’s competitors could potentially follow in the footsteps of Maitri Kovuru, a FWISD student who advanced to the 2019 the Scripps National Spelling Bee. Matri finished No. 35 in the finals.
