Marisol Herrera Awarded Chair of Teaching Excellence Award

Marisol Herrera, fourth grade mathematics and science teacher at Dolores Huerta Elementary School, has been selected as the recipient of the 2019-2020 Lockheed Martin Chair for Teaching Excellence in Elementary Math and Science.  She is one of sixteen Fort Worth ISD teachers honored for academic excellence in their discipline.
Marisol Herrera awarded 2019-20 Lockheed Martin Chair for Teaching Excellence in Elementary Math and Science Ms. Herrera was presented the award on October 23 during a school-wide assembly.  Following a concert by the North Side High School Mariachi Band, Carla Coscia, principal of Dolores Huerta, surprised her with the announcement of the award.
Honorees for the Chairs of Teaching Excellence were chosen by committees dedicated for each specific award.  The committee reviewed the applications and reference letters and selected the finalists.  The finalists were then interviewed and videotaped during a teaching demonstration.
As an 2019-2020 Academic Chair for Teaching Excellence recipient, Ms. Herrera will receive a $5,000 honorarium.  In addition, the school will display a banner recognizing the award, and her picture will be placed at the FWISD Professional Development Center with the other award winners.
Ms. Herrera was previously selected as the Teacher of the Year at Dolores Huerta Elementary School during the 2018-2019 school year.
