Wrestling State Champion: Jacqueline Bunyavong
-
Carter Riverside Wrestling is very proud to announce that all 3 of the wrestlers we took to Houston for the State Wrestling Tournament at the end of February placed in the top 6 of their weight classes. What this means is that these boys and girl are among the best, if not the best, in the entire state of Texas. Out of 251 competing schools the 3 Carter Riverside wrestlers fought hard and competed well in order to earn the honor of standing on the UIL Champions podium and to receive a medal.
History was made on Saturday afternoon when Jacqueline Bunyavong (102 lbs) became the first wrestler from Fort Worth ISD (boy or girl) to become a STATE CHAMPION. Jacqueline won an amazing 4 matches in a row, against the state’s best, in order to receive her gold medal and stand at the top of the podium. Jacqueline showed amazing determination and devotion to success and wrestled at the peak of her ability to defeat her championship opponent, the returning state champion, and take the top of the podium. Throughout the year, Jacqueline has devoted herself to working hard in practice and the classroom in order to achieve this honor and make history.
On the boy’s side of the tournament, both Adrian Gonzales (113 lbs) and Erik Pacheco (145 lbs) placed 4th in the state tournament. Both boys had to battle back from adversity after disappointing losses in their first matches of the state tournament. However, they both showed their grit, determination, and desire to succeed and never gave up. Following their first loss these boys won a very impressive 4 matches in a row, against some of the state’s best, to find themselves in the 3rd place match. Both boys finished 4th after hard fought 3rd places matches. Both Erik and Adrian have worked extremely hard this year both physically and academically in order to compete on Texas Wrestling’s largest stage. Please if you see these two young men congratulate them on all their hard work and success.
