Tar Heel Reader is a collection of free, easy-to-read, and accessible books on a wide range of topics. Each book can be speech enabled and accessed using multiple interfaces. Stories can be viewed at the Promethean Board, on laptops/computers, iPads or printed to paper.
Students can write thier own books using pictures from the huge collection at Flickr or pictures uploaded. Stories can be published to share with others!
This section is devoted to supporting oral and written language development in students with complex communication needs and other developmental disablities. Our aim and intended outcomes are to improve children's literacy skills and oral expression so they can share their stories about their interests, hopes and dreams! Conversational skills and friendships are among the top goals for our children, and we are finding that one of the fastest ways to learn to participate in a conversation and make friends is to share written stories.
