This weekend the Cougar Band was represented by Foy Ellis (9th) and Ja'Kedrick Jackson (11th) at the Region 5 Honor Band Clinic and Concert! Both auditioned and made the Region 5 Honor Bands, joining the ranks of the best musicians from Fort Worth, Arlington, and Mansfield ISD's. On Friday evening and Saturday morning they started rehearsing the music for the first time with their clinicians, and on Saturday evening they performed in a beautiful concert at the Willie Pigg Auditorium in Mansfield.

This past weekend the Cougar Band had several members try out for the Region 5 Band. These students have been preparing 3 different pieces of music that were released in July. They competed against students from all over Region 5 - students from Mansfield, Arlington, and Fort Worth - and I am proud to announce that two of our students made the band!

Foy Ellis made 7th chair trumpet in the 9th Grade Region Band, and Ja'Kedrick Jackson made 15th chair clarinet in the Symphonic Band! These two beat out about 85 other trumpets and clarinets to make this band!

In January they will attend two days of clinics with master teachers and perform a concert with the other students who made the band.

  • UIL Region 5 Marching Contest

Posted by Megan Hinds on 11/8/2019

Your Western Hills Cougar Band braved the elements and came away from the 2019 UIL Region 5 Marching Contest with a Division 1 rating!

A Division 1 rating is the highest you can earn for a UIL Band Contest and stands for superior performance in music, marching, artistry, and execution. These students walked and warmed up in the pouring down rain, but didn't let that affect their overall performance. We want to thank everyone for your support throughout our competitive marching season!
