US Army Bowl
Posted by District Blog on 1/12/2024You may not know the history of the Army All-American Game, but it is a major event for some of the top high school seniors around the nation. At this event, you will see the top football recruits in the nation come and play and a lot of recruits commit during this game.
The US Army Bowl, founded by Rich McGuinnes in 2001, has been bringing All Americans from all across the country to compete right here in Frisco for the past 22 years. The year 2023, however, was a historical year; this year the US Army bowl hosted twenty young women from across the country to compete in the first ever All-American Flag Football Game. Three Fort Worth ISD students alongside three Fort Worth ISD Coaches were represented in this monumental event.
Seniors Alezai Jones (Western Hills), Ja’Liya James (Western Hills), and Ti’yanna Johnson (Northside) competed in the game held on December 18, 2023, at The Star. They were on a team with girls from Arizona, Nevada, Florida, and other girls from Texas.
Representing Team West, all three athletes made a notable impact on the history-making game. Jones, a rusher for the Cougars, recorded a pair of crucial QB pressures. James, a corner, also for the cougars, made several high-staked flag pulls. From Northside, Johnson made a notable impact on the game with her sure hands and excellent route running.
During the three-day event, the athletes were able to autograph cleats, participate in combine activities, and compete in one-on-one skills testing with the football All-American Athletes.
The Team West Coaching staff comprised Coach Christopher Murry (Western Hills), Coach Kylie Johnson (Northside), Coach Akua Twumasi (YWLA), and two phenomenal coaches from Arizona’s Hamilton High School: Matt Stone and Mike Maccagnano.
At the end of the day, the West team fell short, but the impact of the weekend was immeasurable. From the Flag Football gear, new friends made, and an indelible spot in history, both kids and coaches are grateful for the experience.

End of Season
Posted by Coach Murry on 5/18/2023The Lady Cougar Flag Football Team never gave up and came from behind after being down 7-0 at halftime.
On the first play of the second half, Anjell Smith took one to the house on a 65-yard run and she also caught the extra point to tie us up 7-7. She also had two big interceptions on the night. Anjell then caught a 15-yard pass and ran it into the endzone to give us the lead, 13-7.
The girls played a great defensive game by not allowing Paschal to advance the ball for the majority of the game. Check out the new hardware in the trophy case.

Hwy 377 Showdown
Posted by Coach Murry on 5/4/2023Yesterday your Lady Cougars flag football team went over the bridge to battle the undefeated Bobcats and we came away with a victory. The score was 13 to 12.
Iyanu McNatt played a big part in the victory by scoring both touchdowns. The first one was a beautiful pick 6 and the second one was a pass from Reyn Hart that she ran in from 20 yards out.
On the defensive side, Alezia Jones was a brick wall at the pusher position and pulled multiple flags. Ja’liya James had a big interception late in the second half and Anjell Smith and Rachel Ndekelengwe had big plays.
This was by far our most complete game of the year and it couldn’t have come at a better time. If you’re not doing anything on Friday night, it will be our last home game and we will be honoring our seniors that night. The game begins at 6:00 p.m.

Eastern Hills
Posted by Coach Murry on 4/24/2023Saturday, we had a tough loss to Eastern Hills, but the girls played a pretty good defensive game. Eastern Hills scored off an interception late in the first half and that was the only 6 points put on the board. Alezai had a great game and pulled multiple flags. Gabby played a great game and she also helped us out by flipping the field with her huge leg. The great thing is that we got better as a team on Saturday.
After the game, the girls hosted our first flag football camp and I couldn’t have been happier with the way that it turned out. The girls had a great time running the drills and the kids had a great time learning the game, so it was a good day overall.

Diamond Hill Eagles
Posted by Coach Murry on 3/31/2023Yesterday was opening day for the second season of girls' flag football in Texas and your lady cougars took on the Diamond Hill Eagles. The night didn't go as planned as we lost to the Eagles 13-12, but a lot of good things did happen last night. Iyanu McNatt threw for two touchdowns and had a total of 145 passing yards on the night. Gabby Huckleberry grabbed the first touchdown and ran for 65 yards. She also had one interception for the night. Alezai Jones put the next six points on the board with a beautiful pass from Iyanu and ran it for 70 yards. Our defense was pretty solid for the night, pulling multiple flags. I couldn't be any prouder of this young group of girls, they played their hearts out last night.
