Each year, the faculty of Dolores Huerta Elementary School nominates and elects a teacher for Teacher of the Year.  Among other things, the Teacher of the Year inspires students to have a love of learning; has the respect and admiration of students, parents, and co-workers; and demonstrates leadership and innovation in their classroom and on their campus. He or she must have at least five years of teaching experience, three of which must be within Fort Worth ISD.

P. J. Sanchez has been selected as the Dolores Huerta Teacher of the Year for the 2019-20 school year.  Mr. Sanchez teaches second grade English Language Arts.
