Young Men’s Leadership Academy (YMLA) provides challenging STEM based college preparatory curriculum that caters to the learning styles of boys. Beginning in 7th grade, all scholars are required to study Latin. This standard, and our accelerated math and science courses, ensures college preparedness. Scholars successfully compete in UIL, Art, Band, and Whiz Quiz. YMLA also encourages scholar athletes who to participate in sports at both middle school and high school varsity levels. We prepare our scholars for college, assist them in gaining college acceptance, and aid them in earning scholarships. Since our first graduating class, every class has had 100% college acceptance.
As part of our college preparatory, YMLA course offerings include:
- Pre-AP, AP, and AVID
- Dual Credit and Dual Enrollment
- Engineering – (PLTW) Manufacturing, Computer, and Robotics
- Business and Entrepreneurship
YMLA’s mission is to cultivate scholarship and leadership through perseverance, resilience, integrity, discipline, and excellence in our scholars. YMLA has an “A” rating from the State of Texas.
T- STEM
Texas Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (T-STEM) Academies are open-enrollment secondary programs that focus on improving instruction and academic performance in science and mathematics-related subjects and increasing the number of students who study and enter STEM careers. The T-STEM Blueprint provides foundational principles and standards for innovative partnerships with colleges, universities, and industry.
YMLA will serve as one of the 2 T-STEM academies in Fort Worth Independent School District partnering with Tarrant County College and Texas Instruments to provide IM Terrell students with a blended T-STEM Early College High School curriculum with an emphasis on science, math, engineering, and technology. IM Terrell students will have opportunities to engage in work-based learning educational opportunities, earn post-secondary certifications and earn college credit up to 60 college credit hours or an associate’s degree.
T-STEM students:
- can earn up to an associate degree from Tarrant County College (at no cost)
- will earn at least one industry-based certification
- will learn employment and career expectations firsthand through relationships forged with industry partners
- will learn STEM skills through our extensive work-based learning program partnering with Texas Instruments
- will receive supports to help them learn how to manage and be successful in college level coursework.

Young Women’s Leadership Academy (YWLA) is a nationally ranked, single gender, college preparatory program for girls. This academically rigorous program also focuses on social-emotional programming, community service, leadership development and individualized college planning to prepare girls for lifelong learning and leadership. The U.S. Department of Education recognized YWLA as a National Blue Ribbon School in 2016.
- Elective pathways include Visual Arts, Graphic Design, and Architecture and Civil Engineering.
- To prepare for the rigors of college, all core courses in all grades are Pre-AP, Advanced Placement, Dual Enrollment, and Dual Credit.
- Language classes are offered in Mandarin Chinese and Spanish.
- YWLA is home to an award-winning robotics team.
Additional documents required:
- Copy of most recent report card, including conduct grades and STAAR scores
- PSAT 8 scores are required for all high school applicants
Students will be required to attend an interview scheduled by the campus.
Applicants must bring a report card and either STAAR or PSAT 8 scores to the interview.
Note: Students should be prepared to complete a math and writing assessment at the interview.
