Greetings FWISD Stakeholders! This week we are celebrating our valued Educational Diagnosticians. Texas school districts have traditionally observed “Educational Diagnostician Week” the week before our spring break since its inception. This year several school districts are celebrating this momentous occasion from March 4 - 8. In FWISD, we are kicking off our Educational Diagnostician Week celebration today March 6, through March 22.
Educational Diagnosticians evaluate students and pinpoint learning obstacles experienced by students with disabilities and collaborate with instructional staff on strategies to overcome them. FWISD boasts a dedicated team of skilled educational diagnosticians who also serve as special education experts and compliance managers across our schools. Dr. Janice Carter, the Director of Special Education Compliance, Child Find & Related Services highlighted the diverse educational backgrounds of FWISD's Diagnosticians, including (but not limited to) general education, resource/inclusion, and dyslexia services, both within and beyond the district. Mrs. Audrey Thomas, Executive Director of Specialized Learning who spent 15 years as an Educational Diagnostician, expressed her appreciation for the role noting that it takes a great combination of grit, determination, a growth mindset and a strong commitment to service for success in this role.
We extend a heartfelt thank you to our exceptional educational diagnostician team during this week, recognizing their support for students aged 3 to 18+. They possess advanced expertise in assessing for academic achievement and specialized learning strategies and advocating effectively for students' needs while fostering collaboration within special programs. We express gratitude for their service to students, families, and all district stakeholders. We are extremely fortunate and proud to have such a dedicated group of professionals as integral members of the FWISD specialized learning team.
