WELCOME TO THE CHILDREN'S VISION PROGRAM
The Children's Vision Program is dedicated to meeting the eye care needs of Fort Worth ISD students in Pre-K through twelfth grade. It supports school nurses with vision acuity screenings of all elementary school students. In addition, Fort Worth ISD and the Alcon Children's Vision Center have partnered to operate the Alcon Children's Vision Center, a nonprofit school-based eye care clinic located between the Western Hills Elementary and Primary schools to provide vision care services, comprehensive eye exams, and high-quality eyewear for eligible students in connection with the vision acuity screening results.

Required Vision Screenings
As part of the Health and Safety Code, Chapter 36, the Vision Screening Program requires that all children enrolled for the first time in any public, private, parochial, or denominational school or in a Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) licensed child care center and licensed child care home in Texas, or who meet certain grade criteria, must be screened or have a professional examination for possible vision problems.
Eye Exam Referrals
If a student's vision screening results are not within the normal range, the school nurse will send home the FWISD Vision Referral form, recommending a comprehensive eye exam by an eye doctor.
Please contact your Fort Worth ISD School Nurse if you need to request vision resources for your student.
About Alcon Children's Vision Center
We travel to elementary schools across Fort Worth ISD providing eye exams and eyewear for eligible students on site. In addition, we also have a clinic for all other eligible FWISD students to visit with a scheduled appointment.
