- Background Check
- After an application is completed and submitted, the system automatically transfers it to the Office of Professional Standards for a Department of Public Safety (DPS) background check.
An email will be sent alerting the volunteer about whether or not the background check is cleared and, therefore, whether the volunteer is “approved” or "not approved.” - If the background check does not clear, the volunteer will receive an email informing him or her of his status. They will be directed to call the Office of Professional Standards at 817.814.1888 for further information.
- If the background check does clear, the system will automatically send an email to the applicant and, at the same time, build a profile in the school volunteer database. However, approval is conditional on volunteer positions being available and the verification of the information provided, including a photo identification issued by a U.S. Government agency. Verification of the photo identification will be completed at the school upon the volunteer's first visit during the check-in process.
- Once approved, a volunteer can proceed to call the school for current volunteer positions available and any other requirements necessary before starting.
- After an application is completed and submitted, the system automatically transfers it to the Office of Professional Standards for a Department of Public Safety (DPS) background check.
Orientation
Volunteers should complete an orientation to learn about Fort Worth ISD's policies and procedures. The orientation is on the FWISD website on the Volunteers webpage (https://www.fwisd.org/Page/20081). The orientation is important to the safety of our students, staff, and other volunteers, especially in emergencies. The information covered in the orientation prepares volunteers to be able to have a meaningful impact on the quality of education of our students within the framework of the FWISD policies and procedures.Placement
- The volunteer may contact the school's volunteer coordinator, Family Engagement Specialist or the main office to learn about volunteer options.
- Approved volunteers will be required to present a current photo identification issued by any U.S. Government agency at the school(s), the first time they volunteer. The main office will verify the information provided in the application.
Checking in/out at a campus
- Volunteers must sign in and sign out every time they volunteer at a school for the following reasons:
- Safety - In the event of an emergency, it will become crucial to know who is at the school and where.
- Compliance - it allows FWISD to comply with state reporting requirements from House Bill 5 as it is an indicator of the degree of family and community engagement.
- Program Evaluation - It enables the District or a school to evaluate its volunteer program.
- Grants - It is a qualifying factor for certain monetary grants that benefit all of the students in the District.
