The graduating class at Diamond Hill-Jarvis High School has a lot to celebrate.

Carlos Lopez

The class salutatorian, Carlos is finishing high school with a 4.1 GPA. Throughout high school, he participated in National Honor Society, AVID, the school marching band, and the welding program. As a Community Scholar, he will be pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering at TCU.

Ana Medellin

Only four short years after arriving in the United States, Ana is completing high school earning a GPA over 4.0. In the last four years, she’s learned English, taken multiple advanced courses while working nearly full time. As a Community Scholar, she is attending TCU with plans to pursue a degree in environmental science. She intends to use her TCU study abroad stipend making a difference in Africa or Costa Rica.

Kevin Cortez

Kevin made the most of his high school experience learning as much as he could about leadership and excelling as a student-athlete in golf, basketball, cross country, track and field, and tennis. The National Honors Society president maintained a 4.1 GPA will start at TCU in the fall on full scholarship as a Community Scholar. Kevin plans to study biochemistry and pursue a medical school upon receiving his bachelor’s degree.

Maria Barajas

Born in the United States, Maria moved to Mexico as a young child. She returned to the states in 2020 and enrolled in DHJ in 2021. Upon arriving at DHJ, she made her mark learning English, involving herself in extracurricular activities and excelling academically earning a 4.0 GPA. This fall she will be attending TCU on a full scholarship awarded by the TCU Community Scholar program, which offers graduating seniors from 13 majority-minority Dallas-Fort Worth high schools a full scholarship, covering housing, meals, books, tuition, and a 17-week study abroad opportunity in any country where TCU offers academic programs. Maria has aspirations to become a pediatric doctor.

Angel Sanchez

The state record holder for 1600-meter run and 4A Boys Athlete of the State Meet winner, Angel has committed to Oklahoma State University on scholarship. Throughout high school,he amassed multiple , district, region and state accolades in cross country, track and field. He is finishing high school 11th in his class with a 3.8 GPA and dreams of becoming a professional runner.

Ariana Perkins

An equally remarkable students academically and in extracurricular activities, Ariana has earned more than $672,000 in college aid towards her education and has been awarded two full scholarship opportunities. She has committed to attend West Texas A&M University pursuing a double major in animal science and dance. As a DHJ student, Ariana participated in dance, theater, and the agricultural club.

Blas Hernandez

The senior class president, Blas becomes the first in his family to finish high school and and attend college. As a DHJ student, he participated in Vocational Industrial Clubs of America. He plans to attend the University of Texas at Arlington as a Terry Scholar where he will pursue a degree in criminology with aspirations to become a detective. School staff said that Blas carries the hopes and dreams of his family on his shoulders.

Ruben Reyes

The class valedictorian, Ruben holds an extensive list of leadership roles. He serves on the Student Advisory Board, as senior vice president and chief editor of the school yearbook. For all four years of high school, Ruben participated in JROTC and was recognized as Command Sergeant Major. He is going the University of North Texas on full scholarship thanks to the Terry Scholars program. He will be pursing a double major in art education and political science with plans to return to DHJ as an art teacher advocating for and inspiring future generations.

Alessandra Rivas

Ranked No. 4 in her class with a 4.1 GPA, Alessandra is an active student and leader at DHJ. she participated in Diamond Hill’s dance company, Synthesis Dance Company, FWISD’s Whiz Quiz competitions and she served as National Honor Society historian and sentinel for DHJ’s FFA program. She’s headed to TCU as a Community Scholar with plans to pursue a degree in biology. Alessandra has aspirations to become a pediatrician and make a lasting impact on young lives.

Ferney Garcia Diaz

Raised in Durango, Mexico, Ferney enrolled at DHJ in 2022. She quickly became a high-performing student earning numerous academic honors. She will become the first in her family to attend college. Ferney is attending the University of North Texas on a full scholarship awarded by the Terry Scholar program which will cover tuition, housing and study abroad. She plans to study fashion merchandising with a minor in marketing. Ferney
